Some students may need to attend a ‘Hoof Care Intensive Extra’ if they need further consolidation of skills and knowledge. You will be informed if you are required to attend this course by the instructor of Step 7. Students may also choose to attend this as an additional clinic to further extend or consolidate learning.
Through this course you will consolidate and refine your skills in:
• assessing hoof health through structure and form, and using this information to inform trimming decisions.
• how to assess the horse’s gait as it moves.
• using and handling a range of tools.
• critically reviewing trimming.
• using more complex hoof terminology.
• assessing hooves according to strengths and weaknesses.
• relating and starting to apply a basic maintenance trim to more pathological hooves.
