Horse and Hound - 20th November 2008...
A report on the Exmoor Foxhounds is in this edition. The reporter used one of Nic Barkers barefoot horses and was out for the whole day as were three other horses from UKNHCP practioner Nic’s yard, Rockely Farm . It is a nice enough write up, with a lovely picture of Tony the huntsman on Tom Fir heading it up, and some pretty shots of the moor looking picturesque, BUT sadly no nice close-ups of the barefoot horses (although Felix, Charlie and Jack are in the middle of the wide angle shots, and you can pick them out if you know them!).
The article is particularly interesting from one point of view: the reporter had never ridden a barefoot horse, and comments in the article on what a good hunter Charlie is, but managed to write the whole article without even commenting on the fact that Nic’s horses hunt without shoes ;-) To keep up to date with the goings on at Rockley Farm click on the link to the left.
Telegraph - 1st November 2008...
A report ‘Hot on the Trail’ by William Little finds that the post ban hunting world is booming and has a large picture of UKNHCP Sarah Braithwaite and her barefoot horse Fari on the cover page.

Equine Barefoot Trimming National Occupational Standards Development Consultation meeting - 2nd March 2008
UKNHCP directors attended a very constructive meeting with Lantra at Stoneleigh, with a good representation from the key farriery bodies as well as from welfare groups and the other main UK barefoot associations.
A broad range of views was aired in a professional and good-humoured atmosphere, and all the organisations present agreed that equine welfare was our collective top priority.
It was encouraging to see that there was agreement from all sides on key recommendations from Lantra. It was common ground that developing national occupational standards ("NOS") for barefoot was the critical next step forward.
UKNHCP provides training for professional hoofcare providers, both trimmers and farriers, and strongly supports the implementation of NOS. We have been working with Lantra on these standards for nearly two years, and will form members of the sub-group drafting the NOS.
