Throughout the UKNHCP training programme you will have been continually assessed both through self and instructor assessment reports. These reports, which form part of your portfolio, are designed to inform you of learning outcomes and record your development and learning. If at any point in our training you do not reach the learning outcomes for a particular step you will be required to repeat part or all of that step again. In some cases you may be directed to attend additional courses.
Once you reach Step 11 you will be required to take part in a set of final assessments which will serve as an examination of competence leading to the qualification of UKNHCP Certified Practitioner.
Part one is submission of your student file.
Part two is attendance at an examination where an assessment panel consisting of both UKNHCP and external examiners will interview you and assess your skills.
These parts will show you understand and have a high level of skill in;
• the application of natural trimming methods on individual hooves.
• the holistic and analytical nature of hoof care.
• keeping records.
• assessing the horse’s gait as it moves.
• handling horses and hooves.
• the relationship between diet and performance on bare hooves.
• the relationship between environment and performance on bare hooves.
• the role of hoof boots in protecting and developing bare hooves.
• transitioning hooves for successful barefoot performance.
• demonstrating professional conduct at all times.
